Construction

August 23, 1934 Bureau of the Almaty City Council approved the route, a place for the construction of the tram park and shops. Construction was to be conducted in two stages. The first stage - laying of two routes: the line of urban station Almaty-2 to Talgar (st. Kairbekov). The length of these lines - 8,7 km. Second place - from street to street Pasteur Pasteur. Length - 6 km. By tram depot assigned a section between the streets Taranchinskoy and graveyards (between the streets and Mametova Pasteur), Kashgar, and Pasteur. The cost was to be 2 million 860 thousand rubles.

February 29, 1936 was set up self-financing firm to build a tram - "Tramvaystroy. The chief was appointed AI Pozdenko, and chief engineer - AN Reutt. By the construction of the first phase started in the same year. It was attended by people from different parts of the country. Electrical engineer was EI Trunov, who arrived in Alma-Ata directly from the construction site of the Moscow metro. Welding of rails engaged by those who built Turksib. Installation of electrical equipment produced the builders of the Dnieper, power plants in the Far North, in the Caucasus.

Broad construction unfolded only in 1937. There were problems and the timely receipt of necessary materials and equipment from other cities. So, to commission traction substations to the twentieth of October not able, because the road was delayed shipped to Alma-Ata high-voltage cable. As a result of selfless labor tram was put into operation in due time. Moreover, instead of one track on the plan in 1937 to launch the tram almost the entire line was double-track. [1]

Test run[]

November 7, after a festive demonstration, the tram cars have gathered hundreds of people. Over three days of Alma-Ata tram moved no less than fifteen thousand free passengers. This was a trial run of urban railways. Walking around the city in trams suspended - before putting the tram in normal operation. Until December 1-5, builders had a lot of work "[2].

Builders have really had a lot of work, especially at the laying of high-voltage cable in the trench. Last Party, expected before the November holiday, only arrived on November 27, three days before entering the tram in operation. Under the guidance of an electrical engineer Trunova cable laid for three days. Evening of 30 November, released a line of all the available cars in stock, to check on the full load. [1]

First flight[]

December 1, 1937 was made the first flight of Alma-Ata tram. In the first car until tram conductors, the head of the construction of the tram Pozdenko. [3]

For the first fifteen days on the first streetcar line was transported more than 300 thousand passengers. Lack of traffic lights at intersections has led to several cases of car collisions with cars. On the streets of Alma-Ata at the beginning of January 1938 were installed traffic lights. They are included automatically when approaching tram. The first traffic lights were manufactured in railway workshops Office Turksib. Since the beginning of 1938 appeared the first tram pavilions - stop. [1]

Further operation[]

The first trams in Alma-Ata, arrived in 1936. At the beginning of 1938 in Alma-Ata had 10 cars, of which half - motor, half - trailed. In Alma-Ata in pre-war cars also received a series C, they are produced in Sokol'nicheskiy Car Repair Plant. They were trailer cars, whose production, Muscovites have developed from 1930 to 1936 years to cover its own deficit in the rolling stock. In pre-war press is the information on the purchase of the Alma-Ata, Leningrad production cars. At Alma-Ata lines plied triple train, ie, one motor car and two trailers. For the first time such compositions appeared in March 1938. [1] ==Decline of Validator==

In 1993-1998 there was a collapse of the economy of the city tram. Its outcome was a reduction in the path to 31,5 km. Have been dismantled through the streets Satpaeva Chaliapin, Rudnev, closing unprofitable lines in Kalkaman, removed the path and Tole between the streets and Kunaeva Kairbekov.

Since 1999, the tram depot is gradually emerging from the crisis. We found funds to purchase the upgraded cars Czech-made Tatra - Model CT-4D, T-3, T-3D, T-4D. All of them before that plied the streets of German cities of Berlin, Chemnitz, Schwerin. [1]

In 2008, were installed validators.

Prospects[]

Guide tram depot and UAG "Almatyelektrotrans" for future tram looks with optimism. One of the manifestations - the remaining two tram route is not numbered in the number 1 and number 2, but retain the numbers 4 and 6.

In the future operations of Alma-Ata will be formed as the main speed (tram, metro), which will complement the usual (trolley, bus). The future system will be integrated into metrosistemu. The current station, along the route, as it is laid, unprofitable, passenger traffic is very low. The suggestion was made that supported the government that full use should be used underground tram system that runs on land and in the central part of the city - in the subway tunnel.

Akimat signed a protocol of intentions on creating a system of LRT and BRT Almaty. But nothing for the development of the network is not done. [4]
